Abstract

In today’s world, developing positive attitudes toward sustainable development among pre-service science teachers (PSTs) is crucial because future science educators can significantly influence how next generations perceive and respond to issues about sustainable development. Thus, this study set out to examine the effect of a course titled ‘Sustainable Development and Education’ on the development of pre-service science teachers’ attitudes towards sustainable development. The research employed a single-group pre- and post-test design, with a sample of 50 PSTs enrolled in the course. Data were collected through the ‘Attitudes toward Sustainable Development’ scale and analyzed through paired sample t-tests. Findings revealed a statistically significant improvement in both overall and sub-dimension scores from pre- to post-test, favoring the latter. Put simply, the findings suggest that participation in the ‘Sustainable Development and Education’ course was associated with more positive attitudes toward sustainable development among pre-service science teachers.
