Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the relationship between generative AI appropriation and perceived venture innovativeness in early-stage ventures, focusing on the mediating role of opportunity recognition and the moderating role of market turbulence. Methodology: An online survey collected responses from 274 participants in early-stage ventures operating in Türkiye that use generative AI. Hypotheses were tested using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Findings: Generative AI appropriation is positively associated with opportunity recognition and perceived venture innovativeness. Opportunity recognition partially mediates this relationship at the mean level of market turbulence. Market turbulence positively moderates the opportunity recognition–innovativeness relationship. Because market turbulence is measured with two items, the moderation findings should be interpreted with caution. Originality: Using two GAIA dimensions to capture perceived usefulness and adoption tendencies, the study examines their association with perceived venture innovativeness through opportunity recognition and market turbulence. It contributes to research on generative AI appropriation, digital entrepreneurship, opportunity recognition, and venture innovativeness, drawing on task-level productivity research without directly measuring productivity.
