Abstract

Teaching writing in a foreign language is a very challenging process and requires long efforts. Many academic studies are carried out to facilitate and improve this challenging process. However, it is not always possible to access and examine all of these studies. In such cases, systematic compilation studies come to the fore. The aim of this study, which is a systematic review, is to bring together postgraduate theses written in Turkey that investigate the effect of Written Corrective Feedback (WCF) in English writing education and report them based on many factors. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method was used to collect data in the study. YÖK National Thesis Center (YÖKTEZ) was selected as the database. In this database, searches were made using certain keywords, and the obtained theses were then screened according to confidentiality status, field, and subject. As a result of this elimination, the remaining 20 theses were subjected to descriptive analysis with the SPSS program using factors such as the duration of the feedback, thesis language, impact status, participant, type of feedback, date of writing, thesis type, and thesis language. According to the results of the study, although written corrective feedback has a positive effect on the writing performance of EFL students, the studies need to be improved in many respects. In addition, this study offers suggestions and pedagogical applications for future studies.
