Abstract

Introduction: The aim of this study is to identify applications developed using artificial intelligence in the field of midwifery. Artificial intelligencebased applications enable midwives to be effective in their decisionmaking, planning, implementation, and evaluation processes by selecting meaningful information from health data using algorithms. Particularly in the healthcare sector, artificial intelligence systems are used in the analysis of medical images and, in some cases, have the potential to detect abnormalities with higher accuracy than specialists. Artificial intelligence encourages the active participation of pregnant women in the care process by personalising their healthcare, midwives monitor the condition of the mother and foetus during the birth process, determine clinical interventions and decisions to be taken, predict and manage health threats that women may encounter throughout their lives, such as infertility, breast and cervical cancer, and improve the quality of midwifery education. Conclusion: The use of artificial intelligence has been shown to bring about significant improvements in indicators related to women’s and newborn health in midwifery practices worldwide. Increasing the use of artificial intelligence in efforts to protect and maintain maternal and newborn health is considered to play an important role in improving the quality of healthcare. Furthermore, it has been concluded that it is important to use artificial intelligence while respecting ethical values, privacy, and autonomy.
