Abstract

Early defibrillation is a key determinant of survival in cases of sudden cardiac arrest. Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are life-saving devices that enable early intervention by laypersons, even without prior training. Successful community-based AED programs implemented worldwide demonstrate that increasing AED availability alone is insufficient; effective outcomes require integrated strategies including public awareness campaigns, simplified training models, emergency dispatch guidance, and community volunteer involvement. Recent AED deployment in metro stations in İzmir represents a promising step; however, its impact will be maximized only if supported by comprehensive educational and awareness initiatives.
