Abstract

This study examines the production process of artistic paintings created by incorporating dried plants and flowers into paper pulp during the paper production stage for the first time in Turkey, as part of the project “Sustainable Artistic Paper Production from Industrial Hemp Fibres and Agricultural Waste.” The study focuses on both the sustainable dimension of paper production and the transformation of plant material into artistic expression. The project was carried out at the Düzce University Botanical Garden, where handmade paper was produced using samples selected from nearly 600 medicinal, aromatic, and endemic plant species. The research involved separating the fibre bonds of natural fibre plants cotton, flax, hemp, and kenaf through physical methods and producing acid-free paper without the use of chemical additives. The 38 artistic paintings created by embedding plants into the paper pulp are regarded as a unique technique that brings together the traces of nature and the sustainability of cultural heritage.
