Abstract

Aim: The aim of this case report is to present the clinical and radiographic outcomes of apexification treatment performed on a permanent incisor with pulp necrosis due to trauma and delayed intervention. Case Report: An 11-year-old male patient experienced an uncomplicated enamel-dentin fracture following a school accident one year prior. A composite restoration placed at another clinic dislodged after seven months, and two months later the patient presented with swelling and pain. Clinical examination revealed tenderness to percussion and palpation, the presence of a sinus tract, and a periapical radiolucency in tooth no. 11. Apexification was planned with a diagnosis of apical periodontitis. The root canal was irrigated with NaOCl and EDTA, and calcium hydroxide was placed during the first visit. After two weeks, the second visit was performed, the medicament was removed, and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) was placed as an apical barrier. At 3-6-month and 1 year follow-ups, the patient was asymptomatic, and radiographs confirmed periapical healing and apical closure. Follow-up is ongoing. Results: This case demonstrates the effectiveness of MTA in achieving apical closure in immature necrotic teeth. The case also emphasizes the critical importance of timely intervention in traumatic dental injuries to prevent pulpal and periapical complications.

Takipler devam etmektedir. Sonuç: Bu vaka, MTA’nın gelişimini tamamlamamış ve pulpası nekrotik dişlerde apikal kapanmayı sağlamada etkili olduğunu göstermektedir. Ayrıca, travmatik dental yaralanmalarda zamanında müdahalenin pulpal ve periapikal komplikasyonları önlemedeki kritik önemini vurgulamaktadır.
