Abstract
Much of the scholarship on the codification of Islamic jurisprudence tends to center on the Ot-toman experience. Egypt, on the other hand, represents an equally important yet often overloo-ked historical landscape. In “İslam Hukukunun Kanunlaştırılmasının Sosyolojisi -XX. Yüzyıl Mısır Örneği-” İslam Helal uses Egypt as a base to provide a sociological analysis of how Islamic law is transformed into modern statutes. The book goes beyond simply recounting Egyptian history. It engages with the fundamental debate over whether Fiqh can, or should, be adapted into a for-mal legal code. The aim of this article is to introduce Helal’s contribution to the field, situate it within the broader academic literature and offer a critical evaluation of his primary findings.
İslam Helal’in “İslam Hukukunun Kanunlaştırılmasının Sosyolojisi -XX.
