Abstract

Historically, technological developments have destroyed existing jobs and industries on the one hand, while creating new jobs and industries on the other. As different sectors of trade have become automated, workers have been transferred from these sectors to other sectors that continue to rely on labor-intensive work. While digital transformation and artificial intelligence are disrupting labor-intensive sectors, the new industries they create require far fewer people. With the integration of artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud computing into work processes, the skills required of individuals in many areas, from design to manufacturing, education to healthcare, are changing, giving rise to new fields of work and new professions. Global labor markets are directly affected by this transformation, referred to as the fourth industrial revolution. In this context, digital transformation and artificial intelligence increase the risk of job loss in some professions, while also paving the way for the rapid emergence of new professional fields that require highly qualified technical and cognitive skills. This article was prepared to reveal the effects of digital transformation and artificial intelligence on occupations and skills. The article, prepared using a literature review method in the compilation type, covers new professions and skills. The research revealed that, with digital transformation and artificial intelligence, 29 new occupations have emerged in Turkey in the first stage.
