Abstract

This study examines the role of infrastructure capacity and multimodal transportation in the development of logistics centers in Turkey. Using selected logistics center data from 2019–2023, the relationships between station route number, logistics center area, operational indicators, and transportation performance were analyzed. Data was organized in Microsoft Excel, and derived indicators such as load per area, route efficiency, and operational efficiency were calculated. The findings show that the performance of logistics centers depends not only on the size of the infrastructure but also on the efficiency of its use and the level of integration with multimodal transportation. It was found that the total volume of cargo transported was higher in logistics centers with strong railway infrastructure and high multimodal transportation potential. However, the limited efficiency indicators in some centers despite infrastructure capacity highlight the importance of planning and operational processes. In conclusion, the study suggests that to increase the efficiency of logistics centers in Turkey, infrastructure investments should be addressed in a way that supports multimodal transportation, and policies should be developed to utilize existing infrastructure more efficiently.
