Abstract

Allergies are a growing global public health problem, especially for children and people living in cities. Allergies impair the quality of life of individuals, so alternatives are being sought to treat allergic diseases and reduce their symptoms. It has recently been shown that dysbiosis of the gut microbiome may be associated with an increased risk of atopy and probiotics ("good bacteria") have been used to correct this. It has been suggested that probiotics may prevent allergic response due to their anti-inflammatory effects, but this area remains controversial. The most studied allergic diseases in which probiotics have been shown to have a beneficial effect are: Atopic dermatitis, asthma, rhinitis and food allergies. Most studies have examined the administration of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species. However, the different effects of the same probiotic bacteria on patients reinforce the idea that the efficacy of probiotics depends on the microbial species, strain, their derived metabolites, by-products and the patient's gut microbiota eubiosis. The aim of this seminar is to explain the relationship between microbiota and immunity, to elucidate the possible effects of probiotics, which are considered as a treatment within the framework of the relationship between the immune system and allergic diseases on allergic diseases and to provide a basis for future research.
