Abstract

Aim: Yoga teaches people to keep their own self in balance with the combination of body, soul and mind. The use of yoga, which includes the treatment of many physical and psychological symptoms and has a wide range of applications in this respect, has recently increased in the field of women's health. Therefore, this study was conducted to examine the postgraduate nursing theses on the effect of yoga in the field of women's health in Turkey. Materials and Methods: Document analysis method was used in this study. Theses were retrieved from the National Thesis Center of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) between October 24 and November 1, 2024, using the keywords “yoga”, “non-pharmacological methods”, and “nursing” without year limitation. 11 theses that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed. Results: Among the examined theses, one is a master’s thesis, and ten are doctoral theses. Most of the theses (10) are prospective two-arm study design; eight are randomized controlled trials, and three are quasi-experimental studies without randomization. Additionally, approximately half of the sample groups (six) consisted of pregnant women and postpartum women. Seven theses investigated the effects of yoga on stress, anxiety, depression, and fear, while three focused on its impact on quality of life. Nearly all studies found that yoga had positive effects on the evaluated outcomes. Conclusion: The results of the studies indicate that yoga has particularly positive effects on psychological variables such as stress, anxiety, depression, and fear. It is recommended to increase evidence-based studies using yoga in women's health.
