Abstract

This study examines the impact of renewable electricity production, excluding hydroelectric sources, on economic growth in Türkiye over the period 1990–2021. Real GDP per capita is used as the dependent variable, while renewable electricity production, capital formation, labor force, and trade openness are included as explanatory variables. The long-run relationship among variables is analyzed using the ARDL bounds testing approach. The findings reveal the existence of a long-run cointegration relationship. Long-run estimates indicate that renewable electricity production has a positive and statistically significant effect on economic growth. Short-run results suggest that this effect emerges over time. Overall, the results highlight the growth-enhancing role of renewable energy investments.
