Abstract
This study aims to investigate the relationships between lower-extremity anaerobic power output and change of direction (COD) performance, change of direction deficit (COD-D), sprint time, and standing long jump performance in young male volleyball players. Study included 25 licensed young male volleyball players (age: 15.25 ± 0.85 years; height: 181.96 ± 7.01 cm; body weight: 68.40 ± 8.36 kg) who train regularly. Participants were subjected to the T-agility test, zigzag agility test, 20 m and 40 m sprint tests, standing long jump, and countermovement jump (CMJ) tests. Lower-extremity power output was calculated using the Sayers equation, while COD-D was determined by subtracting the 20 m sprint time from zigzag test duration. Statistical analysis confirmed that data were normally distributed (Shapiro-Wilk p > .05), and relationships between variables were analyzed using the Pearson correlation coefficient. Results revealed strong negative correlations between lower-extremity anaerobic power output and the zigzag test (r = -0.830), T-test (r = -0.837), 40 m sprint (r = -0.925), and COD-D (r = -0.856); conversely, a strong positive correlation was found with the standing long jump (r = 0.868) (p < .001). These findings suggest that the development of lower-extremity anaerobic power is a decisive factor not only for jumping performance but also for agility, sprint time, and change of direction efficiency.
