Abstract

This study aimed to identify and analyze the most cited articles on PETE (Physical Education Teacher Education) students through a systematic review and bibliometric analysis, revealing research trends and contributing to the teacher education literature. Studies indexed in the Web of Science database were examined to determine the most productive authors, journals, countries, and keywords. Thematic orientations, methodological characteristics, and educational implications were systematically assessed. Results indicated a notable increase in PETE-related publications after 2010. Chiva-Bartoll, Dervent, and Block were identified as leading authors, while the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education was the most prominent journal. The United States, Spain, Australia, and the United Kingdom showed the highest country-level affiliation frequencies. Frequently used keywords include perceptions, beliefs, pedagogical content knowledge, attitudes, inclusion, and experiences; however, the themes of gender, diversity, and validity show relatively limited development within the thematic structure. The findings reveal an increase in publication frequency after 2010 among the 50 most-cited studies examined and emphasize the need for future research to focus more on issues of gender, diversity, and validity.
