Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine goals scored in the UEFA Women’s Champions League during the 2023–2024 and 2024–2025 seasons in terms of technical, tactical, and situational variables and to determine differences between the two seasons. The study was conducted using a quantitative descriptive content analysis design. The population consisted of all official matches played during the two seasons, and no sampling procedure was applied. A total of 424 goal events recorded in 122 matches were evaluated through systematic video analysis. Data were obtained from the official UEFA website and included match outcome, impact of the first goal, goal-scoring zone, contact surface used in the shot, goal timing, number of contacts before scoring, and set-piece situations. Statistical analyses were performed using Jamovi software. Categorical variables were summarized using frequencies and percentages, and differences between seasons were examined using the Pearson chi-square test (p < 0.05). The findings revealed significant differences between seasons in the distribution of match outcomes (χ²(2, N = 120) = 13.00, p = 0.002, V = 0.329) and in the effect of scoring the first goal on match outcome (χ²(2, N = 119) = 10.00, p = 0.007, V = 0.291). Most goals were scored inside the penalty area (89.2%), using the foot (78.8%), and following a one-touch action (66.5%). However, no significant differences were found between seasons regarding the distribution of technical and tactical variables. These findings suggest that goal-scoring characteristics in elite women’s football remained largely consistent across the two seasons examined.
