Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of different warm-up protocols (dynamic warm-up, static warm-up, and jogging) on performance variables in 10-12-year-old athletes. Three different warm-up protocols, dynamic warm-up, static warm-up, and jogging, were randomly applied to the volunteer male athletes (n=25) participating in the study. The athletes' anthropometric characteristics were determined prior to the applications (age: 11.24 ± 0.81 years, height: 152.31 ± 10.02 cm, body weight: 39.71 ± 10.56 kg). The jogging, static warm-up, and dynamic warm-up protocols were applied to the athletes on different days; performance measurements were taken three minutes after each warm-up protocol. Participants underwent a sit-and-reach test, a 60-metre sprint test, a standing long jump, and T-agility tests over a two-week period, and the data obtained from the participants were recorded. The data obtained were analysed using the SPSS software package, and participants who provided incomplete data were not included in the evaluation. Analysis of variance (Repeated Measures ANOVA) was applied to data showing a normal distribution. No statistically significant difference was found between the protocols (p > 0.05). However, it was observed that the dynamic warm-up protocol yielded numerically better mean scores in the standing long jump (177.1 ± 19.70 cm), flexibility (4.64 ± 6.12cm), and 60 m speed tests (9.63 ± 0.65) compared to the static and jogging protocols. In the T-agility test, although not statistically significant, the jogging protocol yielded numerically better duration results (14.02 ± 1.50 s) than the dynamic (14.16 ± 1.30 s) and static (14.48 ± 1.32 s) protocols. Consequently, dynamic warm-up and jogging protocols contribute to the performance parameters of athletes aged 10–12 years; therefore, implementing these protocols before training and competition may have positive effects on performance.
