Abstract

This study aims to identify current trends in linguistic research through the analysis of academic announcements. The dataset consists of international conference calls, book announcements, academic position postings, and research project notices published in English between January 1, 2025 and March 20, 2026. Unlike conventional bibliometric studies, this approach captures not only published research but also ongoing and planned research agendas. The study employs a qualitative content analysis framework, structured at three levels: categorical analysis of research domains, methodological analysis of research approaches, and thematic analysis of broader research tendencies. The data were systematically coded and classified, and frequency and percentage distributions were calculated to support the analysis. The findings indicate a strong concentration in the areas of language technologies, language education, and pragmatics/discourse, while fields such as psycholinguistics and historical linguistics are less represented. Methodological results show that theoretical approaches remain significant, alongside a growing prominence of corpus-based and computational methods. Thematic analysis reveals four major trends: technological transformation, data-driven research, cognitive orientation, and multilingualism/language diversity. Overall, the study demonstrates that linguistic research is increasingly shaped by the integration of theoretical and data-driven approaches, and highlights academic announcements as a valuable data source for tracking emerging research directions.
