Abstract

Developments in computer technology have influenced working hours by enabling certain jobs to be performed remotely and by giving rise to new occupations. In this study, the impact of individuals’ access to information and communication technologies on annual working hours was examined for 15 selected OECD countries over the period 2010–2020. To this end, panel data analysis was employed. Specifically, pooled ordinary least squares, structural break tests, as well as LR, LM, and F tests were conducted. To determine whether the model followed fixed effects or random effects, the Hausman Test was applied. The results indicated that the random effects model was appropriate. Subsequently, the model was tested for normal distribution, specification errors, and deviations from assumptions. The findings revealed that the model followed a normal distribution and contained no specification errors, although deviations from assumptions were present. To address these issues, the Driscoll-Kraay test was applied, yielding the final model. According to the results, individuals’ access to and use of information and communication technologies were found to have a significant and negative effect on working hours.
