Abstract

Aim: Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) is an effective disease-modifying treatment for allergic rhinitis; however, real-life data on factors influencing treatment response remain limited. To evaluate the real-life effectiveness of AIT and to investigate whether treatment response is influenced by allergen type, sensitization profile, or baseline biomarkers. Materials and methods: This retrospective observational study included 47 patients receiving AIT for allergic rhinitis. Demographic and clinical characteristics, including allergen type (house dust mite or pollen) and sensitization profile (mono- vs polysensitized), were recorded. Treatment response was assessed using changes in Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire (RQLQ) scores at baseline and after 6 months. Group comparisons and correlation analyses were performed to evaluate factors associated with treatment response. Results: A total of 47 patients (61.7% female, mean age 33.4±9.2 years) were included. House dust mite (HDM) sensitization was present in 44.7% and pollen sensitization in 55.3% of patients, while 51.1% were monosensitized and 48.9% polysensitized. Asthma was present in 31.9% of patients. RQLQ scores significantly improved from 53.4±16.3 at baseline to 27.4±15.3 at 6 months (p<0.001). No significant difference in treatment response was observed between HDM and pollen sensitization (p=0.674), between monosensitized and polysensitized patients (p=0.711), or between patients with and without asthma (p=0.806). Additionally, treatment response was not associated with baseline eosinophil levels, total IgE, or lung function parameters. Conclusion: AIT significantly improves quality of life in patients with allergic rhinitis in real-life clinical practice. This improvement appears to be independent of allergen type, sensitization profile, asthma status, and baseline biomarkers, supporting the broad effectiveness of AIT across different patient subgroups.

Tedavi yanıtı, başlangıç ve 6. ayda değerlendirilen Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire (RQLQ) skorlarındaki değişim üzerinden incelendi.
