Abstract

Aim: This study aims to evaluate the impact of remote nursing interventions based on the empowerment process model on individuals with dementia and their family caregivers. Materials and Methods: It is designed as a mixed-methods study. The mixed-methods type selected is the explanatory sequential mixed-methods design. The quantitative part of the study is planned in a randomized controlled pre-test–post-test (parallel) study design. The study will be conducted with 30 caregivers in the intervention group and 30 in the control group. Data will be collected using the Introduction Form, Zarit Caregiver Burden Scale, Readiness to Care Scale, Mini Mental Test, and NPE – Neuropsychiatric Inventory. The intervention period is set at 10 weeks. It will be conducted in weekly sessions. The empowerment process model has been adopted to guide the intervention process. Remote nursing interventions based on this model will be carried out through a website called “Take Care of Yourself.” Quantitative data will be evaluated using appropriate statistics in the SPSS 25.0 software package. The qualitative section will be implemented after the quantitative section of the study is completed. The qualitative section is designed as a descriptive phenomenological design. In-depth individual interviews will be conducted with individuals who meet the inclusion criteria. A semi-structured interview form will be used in the individual interviews. Data analysis will be performed using a content analysis approach. The data will be analyzed using the MAXQDA 20 program. After the data collected from the qualitative and quantitative phases are analyzed separately, the findings of the two phases will be integrated in the interpretation phase. Conclusion: It is anticipated that the study will demonstrate that remote nursing interventions based on the empowerment process model may have positive effects on individuals with dementia and their family caregivers, and that the model and mixed methods research used will serve as an example.
