Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the effects of the use of pedometers, digital stopwatches, and electronic scoreboards in physical education classes on students’ situational motivation and self-efficacy levels. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group design was employed in the study. The sample of the study consisted of 38 students (experimental group = 19, control group = 19; mean age = 12.24 ± 0.43 years) enrolled in a middle school in Sakarya, Türkiye. The Situational Motivation Scale for Physical Education and the Self-Efficacy Scale for Children were used as data collection instruments. Descriptive statistics and a 2×2 repeated measures (ANOVA) were employed for data analysis using SPSS 27 software. The findings indicated that there were no statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups in the pre-test measurements across situational motivation and self-efficacy sub-dimensions (p>.05). Regarding situational motivation, the measurement × group interaction was significant for external regulation (p=.038) and amotivation (p=.018). A significant between-group difference in favour of the experimental group was found for identified regulation (p=.022). In terms of self-efficacy, neither the measurement effect, the between-group effect, nor the measurement × group interaction reached statistical significance (p>.05). In conclusion, the integration of visual technological tools in physical education produced a significant interaction effect on students' external regulation and amotivation levels; however, no statistically significant changes were observed in intrinsic motivation or self-efficacy.
