Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the Special Talent Exam (OZYES), implemented as a centralized model for selecting students with disabilities in the field of sport sciences in Turkey, by comparing it with the earlier non-centralized, university-based examination systems. The centralized and standardized structure introduced by OZYES appears to offer substantial improvements over the previously heterogeneous and inconsistent practices. Notably, the model provides significant advantages regarding economic accessibility, logistical convenience, and overall inclusiveness for candidates with disabilities. However, certain components—such as track standardization, résumé-based scoring, and sensitivity to different disability types—remain open to further refinement. In this context, the special talent examinations conducted by universities during the 2021–2022 academic years were systematically compared with the tests and procedures described in the ÖZYES guide by the Assessment, Selection, and Placement Center [ÖSYM] (2025), allowing for a detailed analysis of the system’s strengths and weaknesses.
