Abstract
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an advanced diagnostic imaging method that provides high-resolution images in both humans and animals. Because MRI images are obtained without the use of ionizing radiation, it is a highly reliable diagnostic tool for imaging organs and other structures. While computed tomography (CT) has become increasingly prominent in the diagnosis of thoracic pathologies, the image quality of MRI has improved in recent years, significantly reducing motion artifacts. This review briefly discusses MRI application and technical principles, highlights MRI findings in thoracic pathologies in cats and dogs, and highlights the role of MRI in disease diagnosis, prognosis, and surgical planning.
