Abstract

A 12-year-old castrated male domestic shorthair cat was presented with three months history of tenesmus, haematochezia, dyschezia and diarrhoea. Laboratory examinations revealed hypercalcemia, hypophosphatemia, increased globulin concentration and LDH enzyme activity, and monoclonal gammopathy with high gamma-globulin concentration. Based on contrast radiography findings, the cat was diagnosed with a “short colon” and cecal agenesis. Treatment involved a highly digestible, low-residue diet, psyllium, and sulfasalazine. Clinical signs improved within three weeks, and the short colon was successfully treated. This case report aims to share the palliative treatment and short-term outcomes of a cat diagnosed with a short colon and cecal agenesis.
