Abstract

Subjective well-being has become an increasingly important area of research in the social sciences, particularly in recent years. However, as this research topic is not yet sufficiently developed in Turkey, the studies conducted on this subject and the policy recommendations to be presented will reflect on working life by increasing individuals' life satisfaction and, in this context, social welfare will also be achieved. The main objective of this study is to examine the connection between particular variables and the subjective well-being of salaried and hourly workers in Turkey during 2014 and the salaried workers of 2024. The study used micro data from the TÜİK Life Satisfaction Survey to examine how age, education and marital status and employment satisfaction and income satisfaction and Social Security Institution services satisfaction affected people's total happiness. The researchers employed ordinal logit model in their analysis because they needed to consider the ordered nature of their selected variables. The results show that the factors which affect people's subjective well-being have changed between 2014 and 2024 according to the comparison of both years' data. The relationship between individuals' satisfaction with their earnings and Social Security Institution services and their subjective well-being had a stronger presence in 2024 than in earlier times. The results suggest that people perceive their well-being through their assessments of economic uncertainties and their institutional framework evaluations.
