Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop a measurement tool that covers teachers' social participation both inside and outside of school, and to determine the validity and reliability of the measurement tool. The research is designed using quantitative research method. In this context, firstly, the relevant literature was reviewed to determine the scope and define the problem. Secondly, an item pool was created. Thirdly, qualitative data was collected, and the created item pool was re-evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively. Fourthly, expert opinions were sought to strengthen the content and content validity. Finally, a pilot application of the measurement instrument items was conducted, and construct validity and reliability tests were performed in light of the data obtained. The "Social Activity Taxonomy" was used as the basis for the development of the Social Participation Scale" for teachers. The study population consisted of the Kepez, Muratpaşa, and Konyaaltı districts of Antalya province, which have the highest population density and are urban homogeneous among the five central districts. In determining the sample, gradually stratified, proportional, and random sampling methods were used. In this study, the sample consisted of 335 teachers working at different levels of education in public schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in the 2024-2025 academic year. In conclusion, 292 properly completed measurement instruments were included in the analysis. The obtained data were subjected to confirmatory factor analysis as required by the theoretical basis and assumptions underlying the measurement tool. As a result, a dual measurement tool consisting of 22 items distributed in five dimensions to measure teachers' social participation outside of school and 37 items distributed in six dimensions to measure teachers' social participation within school was developed. Thus, as a result of the validity and reliability analyses conducted, it was determined that the scale is a valid and reliable tool that can be used to determine the opinions of teachers working in official schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in Turkey regarding "Teachers' Social Participation". The dual nature of the measurement tool can be used both in studies aiming to measure teachers' social participation as a whole, and in studies aiming to measure teachers' social participation inside and outside of school separately.
