Abstract

The digital age has profoundly reshaped the ways in which readers engage with texts, introducing new modes of interaction that extend beyond traditional reading practices. Social media and online platforms now provide spaces where readers are not merely passive consumers of literary works but also active participants who interpret, critique, and even contribute to the meaning-making process. Within this context, the present study focuses on the Turkish translation of The Vegetarian by Han Kang, who is recognized as the first female author in Korean literature to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Using Goodreads as a case study, the research investigates how Turkish readers receive, interpret, and discuss the translated text in a digital environment. The analysis combines reader-response theory with the concept of participatory culture to demonstrate how online platforms foster dialogic interaction between texts and audiences. Data were collected from user-generated reviews on Goodreads and evaluated through qualitative content analysis. The findings suggest that digital interaction not only reconfigures the cultural framing of translated works but also generates additional interpretive layers that shape readers’ perceptions and understandings. By highlighting the interplay between translation, digital culture, and reader reception, the study contributes to broader discussions on the circulation and recontextualization of translated literary works in contemporary digital environments.

Özet

Dijital çağ, okur ve metin arasındaki etkileşim biçimlerini derinlemesine dönüştürerek yazınsal iletişim süreçlerinde yeni dinamikler ortaya çıkarmıştır. Sosyal medya ve çevrimiçi paylaşım platformları, okurların yalnızca pasif metin alıcıları olmaktan çıkarak aktif yorumlayıcı, tartışmacı ve içerik üreticisi konumuna gelmesine olanak sağlamaktadır. Bu bağlamda çalışmanın odak noktasını, Kore yazınında Nobel Edebiyat Ödülü alan ilk kadın yazar unvanına sahip Han Kang’ın Vejetaryen adlı eserinin Türkçe çevirisinin Türkiye’deki okurlar tarafından alımlanışı oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada Goodreads platformu örneklem olarak seçilmiş; okur tepkisi kuramı ile katılımcı kültür yaklaşımı bir arada kullanılarak çevrimiçi etkileşim ortamında eserin nasıl değerlendirildiği, tartışıldığı ve yeniden anlamlandırıldığı incelenmiştir. Çalışmada nitel içerik analizi yöntemiyle Goodreads kullanıcı yorumları çözümlenmiş ve elde edilen bulgular, dijital okur pratiklerinin çeviri metnin kültürel bağlamını dönüştürdüğünü göstermiştir. Buna göre, eserin Türkiye’deki alımlanışı yalnızca çevirinin dilsel boyutuyla sınırlı kalmamakta, aynı zamanda dijital ortamda üretim ve paylaşım süreçleriyle şekillenen yeni anlam katmanları kazanmaktadır. Bu yönüyle çalışma, Koreceden Türkçeye çevrilmiş yazınsal metinlerin erek kültürdeki dolaşımını anlamaya yönelik katkı sunmayı amaçlamaktadır.
