Abstract

Synthetic plastics found in everyday materials constitute the main waste on Earth that is very difficult to destroy. Since essential and valuable resources such as food, energy, and water are at risk, changes in the ecosystem caused by factors such as plastic pollution have a dramatic effect on a global scale. Although the problem of plastic waste has not yet been solved, ways of reducing its environmental impact are being discussed. One such issue is the use of microorganisms that can break down plastic. It is known that Aspergillus tubingensis can partially prevent plastic accumulation in nature. For this purpose, optimum conditions and food sources were createdfor A. tubingensis, which we obtained in our study, to survive in the natural environment. Equal amounts of plastic bag sand pieces of plastic bottles were added to the medium in which the fungi were cultivated and their development observed. After monitoring for 150 days, the isolates cultured from this medium were identified using MALDI-Biotyper after the measurements and determinations were made. After the species determination, some characteristics of A. tubingensis were tested in vitro. As a result of these experiments, it was determined that it could grow at 30 °C and 37 °C, was resistant to low pH, showed antioxidant and catalase activity, and could produce esterase and lipase. The time taken by A. tubingensis to destroy plastic in different environments was examined and reported. It was clarified which features and methods the microorganism uses during this process, and it was shown that A. tubingensis can be effective in preventing environmental pollution caused by plastic waste.

Aspergillus tubingensis’in doğada plastik birikimini kısmen engelleyebileceği bilinmektedir. Tür tayini yapıldıktan sonra A. tubingensis’in in vitro olarak bazı özellikleri test edilmiştir.
