Abstract
This study aims to adapt the origin story of the idiom “Çam Devirmek” found in İskender Pala’s work İki Dirhem Bir Çekirdek to the B1 level within the context of teaching Turkish as a foreign language. Designed according to the descriptive survey model, one of the qualitative research designs, the study employs document analysis as its primary data collection method. In selecting the idiom, its frequency of use in everyday language and its adaptability to the B1 proficiency level were taken into consideration. The adaptation process was guided by the B1-level adaptation criteria of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. During the adaptation process, the five operations of the Text Modification Taxonomy—combination, deletion, addition, substitution, and reordering—were systematically applied to align the texts with the target level (B1). In addition, explicitation, simplification (lexical simplification and preservation), and facilitation criteria were implemented. According to the findings, simplification was the most frequently applied criterion, accounting for 47.37%, followed by explicitation at 44.74% and facilitation at 7.89%. The adaptation criteria were also applied in dual or triple combinations. The word counts of the original and adapted texts were analyzed using Microsoft Excel; the original text consists of 225 words, while the adapted text contains 227 words. The most frequently recurring words in the adapted text are çam (pine), köşk (mansion), yaz (summer), and bahçe (garden). In line with Stephen Krashen’s Input Hypothesis (i+1), the study aims to provide learners with high-quality linguistic input that is one level above their current proficiency. For the adapted story, activity-based questions were developed based on the cognitive levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy.
Stephen Krashen’in Girdi Hipotezi (i+1) doğrultusunda öğrenicilere seviyelerinin bir basamak üstünde, nitelikli bir dilsel girdi hedeflenmiştir. Uyarlanan hikaye için, Bloom Taksonomisinin bilişsel basamakları temel alınarak etkinlik soruları hazırlanmıştır.
