Abstract
This study aims to examine how issues related to Alevism and current sociopolitical developments were addressed in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) between 1923 and 2002. Based on parliamentary records, the research analyzes the approaches of members of parliament toward sectarian differences, the discursive frameworks surrounding Alevism, and the shifting political attitudes over time. It explores how the issue of Alevism was debated in the legislature from the early years of the Republic onward, the reflections of Sunni–Alevi relations in parliamentary discourse, and the demands of the Alevi community directed at various governments, all within a historical continuity. In this context, Alevism is evaluated not only as a matter of faith but also as a socio–political issue. The study reveals that, depending on the period, the issue of Alevism was either ignored or addressed in a limited manner, and it questions the extent to which parliamentary discourse was sensitive to sectarian identities. The findings provide significant insights into the political representation of religious identities and the transformation of state–society relations in modern Turkiye.
