Abstract

The primary objective of this study is to examine the perceptions of aviation security and aviation safety culture among university students receiving aviation education and to reveal how these perceptions differentiate according to various demographic parameters. Among quantitative research methods, the relational survey model was preferred for the research. The population of the study consists of aviation students in Turkey who gained internship experience at airports during their education. The sample of the research comprises 201 students studying in the Department of Aviation Management at Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University, determined through the snowball sampling method, which is one of the non- probability sampling methods.Data were obtained via a structured questionnaire; during the analysis process, in addition to descriptive statistics, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was conducted for the structural validity of the scales, and the Cronbach’s Alpha reliability test was used for internal consistency. In testing the hypotheses, independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation analysis were utilized. Research findings indicate a positive and highly significant relationship (r = 0.841; p < 0.01) between aviation security culture and safety culture perceptions. As a result of demographic analyses, it was determined that the security and safety perceptions of 4th-grade students were significantly higher than those of lower-grade students; this confirms the decisive role of internships and academic seniority on risk awareness. Furthermore, it was confirmed that foreign language proficiency created a significant difference in the perception of security culture, whereas the gender variable had no statistical effect on either culture structure. The results underline the critical importance of supporting theoretical knowledge with operational field experience in aviation education and the impact of practical training in establishing professional safety and security awareness.
