Abstract
This study examines the architectural and decorative features of the Hüdavend Hatun Mausoleum and how these elements have been incorporated into contemporary design productions. Reflecting the advanced technical and aesthetic understanding of Anatolian Seljuk monumental tomb architecture, the mausoleum stands out as a unique example with its octagonal plan, muqarnas transitions, rich crown gate arrangement, and figurative ornamentation. Figures such as the double-headed eagle, lion, and siren, along with geometric and floral decorations, are considered important elements reflecting the symbolic and artistic language of the period. Furthermore, inscriptions provide significant data revealing both the religious and political identity of the structure. The research examines the reflections of this architectural and artistic heritage in contemporary design works carried out within the Mersin Maturation Institute, as part of the national Turkish World Cultural Journey project conducted by the General Directorate of Lifelong Learning. The role of maturation institutes in preserving, developing, and reinterpreting traditional arts with a modern design approach is emphasized. In this context, inspired by the mihrab, crown gate, and surface decorations of the Hüdavend Hatun Mausoleum; Paintings, glass paintings, and ceramic plate designs were produced using both wood carving and glass painting techniques. In conclusion, the study demonstrates that motifs from Anatolian Seljuk art can be reinterpreted and kept alive with contemporary design sensibilities; it also shows that vocational training institutions play an important role in preserving and transmitting cultural heritage to future generations.
