Abstract

In recent times, significant advancements have been made in technology-based applications, particularly with the observation that new applications based on artificial intelligence possess functional capabilities such as speech, writing, perception, text generation, and imitation, similar to the human brain. These developments are occurring through the utilization of intelligent algorithms. ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence product that has been frequently used by people in the last year, is one of the chatbots that can be used in all areas of education. What makes this application powerful is its question-answer feature, its accurate explanation of texts, its regular and correct sentence structure, and its ability to provide satisfactory information on every subject. In this context, the aim of the study is to determine the views of ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence-supported language processing model, on the social studies course. For this reason, 16 questions were prepared based on the Social Studies course curriculum and literature review, and then the application was carried out in the form of question-answer in the online application of ChatGPT and the textual explanation data obtained were transferred to the digital environment. According to the results of this study, it was found that the students mostly responded correctly to the questions prepared about the Social Studies course. In particular, it is noteworthy that she organized the textual explanations about the Social Studies course into headings and used language effectively. From this point of view, it is estimated that these artificial intelligence-supported tools and applications can be used effectively in Social Studies in the classroom environment in the future.
