Abstract

Professional ethics is one of the fundamental determinants of the relationship that individuals establish with people, values, and society through their professional actions. Ethics is not limited solely to written rules, professional principles, or legal regulations; rather, it is directly related to an individual’s sense of responsibility, conscience, and search for meaning in professional life. In this respect, professional ethics represents a structure that goes beyond individual moral attitudes and is closely connected to the social function of professions and public trust. Especially in fields such as education, academia, the arts, and management, where direct interaction with people is intensive, ethics emerges as a central element that determines the quality of professional practices and supports institutional legitimacy. The aim of this study is to address the concept of professional ethics within a human- and value-centered theoretical framework; to examine how ethical discussions take shape on a common ground across different fields such as education, academia, and managerial practices; and to evaluate the field of education as an illustrative example for this broader ethical discussion. The study adopts a qualitative literature review design and is structured around the concepts of professional ethics, ethical culture, ethical dilemmas, ethical leadership, and academic integrity. The findings indicate that professional ethics cannot be sustained solely through institutional regulations and ethical codes; rather, it gains meaning through the internalization of ethical values by individuals and institutions, the development of ethical reasoning skills, and the strengthening of ethical leadership. In this context, the study aims to make visible the dynamic relationship between individual responsibility, institutional culture, and social trust, thereby offering a holistic contribution to ethical discussions in human-centered professions.
