Abstract

Geriatric nursing is a branch of nursing that continues to improve, protect and improve the health of elderly patients. It is important to meet the care needs of older adults to meet their often challenging, complex physical and mental health needs. Geriatric nursing has important duties and responsibilities to provide evidence-based, effective, qualified, high-quality and professional nursing care. In some countries, the competencies required for duties and responsibilities in the field of elderly care nursing have been determined by relevant organizations and all of them are presented in guides in the form of standards. In Turkey, the authorities, duties and responsibilities of geriatric nursing are defined by associations or institutions related to the field. This compilation; It was discussed in order to emphasize the importance of geriatric nursing, to compare its standards and competencies internationally and to contribute to the literature in this context.

Özet

Geriatri hemşireliği yaşlı hastaların sağlığını iyileştirmeye, korumaya ve geliştirmeye devam eden bir hemşirelik dalıdır. Yaşlı yetişkinlerin çoğu zaman zorlayıcı, karmaşık, fiziksel ve zihinsel sağlık ihtiyaçlarını yerine getirmeye yönelik bakım gereksinimlerinin karşılanması önemlidir. Geriatri hemşireliğinin, kanıta dayalı, etkili, nitelikli, kaliteli ve profesyonel hemşirelik bakımı sunabilmesi için önemli görev ve sorumlulukları bulunmaktadır. Bazı ülkelerde yaşlı bakım hemşireliği alanında görevler ve sorumluluklar ile alakalı sahip olunması gereken yetkinlikler, ilgili kuruluşlar tarafından belirlenmiş ve hepsi standartlar şeklinde rehberlerde sunulmuştur. Türkiye de ise geriatri hemşireliğinin yetki, görev ve sorumlulukları alana ilişkin dernekler veya kurumlar tarafından tanımlanmaktadır. Bu derleme; geriatri hemşireliğinin önemini vurgulamak, standartları ve yeterliliklerini uluslararası kapsamda karşılaştırmak ve bu bağlamda literatüre katkı sağlamak amacıyla ele alınmıştır.
