Abstract

Aim: To assess intensive care unit nurses' knowledge and attitudes regarding the risk factors, signs, and symptoms of urosepsis, as well as their awareness of catheter-related urinary tract infection control measures. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study involved 130 nurses working in adult intensive care units at a university hospital. Data were collected using a "Descriptive Information Form," "Urosepsis Information Form," and "Catheter-Related Urinary Tract Infections Control Measures Scale." Results: Among participants, 89.2% correctly defined urosepsis. The most common risk factor for urosepsis was urinary catheterization (74.6%), and E. coli was the most frequently identified pathogen (76.2%). The most common vital sign change in the diagnosis of urosepsis was a body temperature between 36°C and 38°C (92.3%). A decrease in urine output below 0.5 mL/kg/hour (88.5%) was the most common finding indicative of urosepsis. Regarding confidence, 40.9% agreed that they could easily identify high-risk urosepsis patients, and 46.2% were confident in recognizing its signs and symptoms. The mean score for urinary tract infection control measures was 65.55 ± 7.93. Conclusions: Nurses demonstrated strong knowledge of urosepsis signs and symptoms; however, gaps remained in understanding of risk factors and institutional protocols. The study suggests the need for in-service training on urosepsis risk factors and institutional guidelines for intensive care unit nurses.
