Abstract

This study goes beyond simple optimization approaches for LED aging and lifespan estimation by using the TRIZ methodology as an innovative solution. A fundamental technical paradox in the TRIZ approach is that accurate LED lifespan estimation requires lengthy aging tests, which delay time-to-market, reducing both time and efficiency. A similar physical paradox arises from the need for long test times for accuracy, while short times are necessary for rapid market launch. To address these paradoxes, the decomposition principles of TRIZ are utilized. Accelerated aging tests are performed using a time-based decomposition approach, followed by simultaneous tests under different environmental and operating conditions using a spatial decomposition approach. Furthermore, principles such as inhibitory effect, viscosity change, and acceleration, which are among the 40 innovative principles of TRIZ, are used to improve the efficiency of LED aging processes. Thus, the temperature-dependent aging behavior and lifespan estimation of LEDs are analyzed within the framework of TM-21 and LM-80 standards. The TRIZ methodology significantly reduces the differences between accuracy and test time thanks to its systematic problem-solving approach.
