Abstract

This study aimed to achieve broadband linear and circular polarization convertion using a crescent shaped metasurface design. The unit cell consists of three layers: A metal ground plane, a metamaterial substrate, and a metal crescent design. This metasurface design is capable of performing polarization conversion with an efficiency of over 90% in the 14.1–19.3 GHz frequency range by reflecting an incident y/x-polarized wave as an x/y-polarized wave respectively. Furthermore, this design is capable of performing circular polarization conversion in the 13.4-13.8 GHz and 19.5-19.8 GHz frequency ranges. This design can be used in areas such as radar cross-section (RCS) reduction, metasurface antennas, and wireless communications applications.
