Abstract

Globally, the epidemic has had a significant impact on nations, businesses, and households. To reduce economic losses, many nations made major adjustments to their fiscal and monetary policies. In order to increase market liquidity, central banks restructured loans and debts, changed policy interest rates, and offered low-interest loans. During this period, stock markets were observed to deviate from their usual price movements and to be affected at varying levels. As a result, it can be stated that public and private sector debts increased, bringing about debt-related risks. Using the major stock market indices of the D-8 nations (Turkey, Egypt, Iran, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria and Malaysia), the main goal of this study is to determine if any possible price bubbles are present. Although the analyzed data frequency includes the pre-pandemic period, the global pandemic remains the central focus of the research. This emphasis underscores the study's main motivation and its contribution to literature. The SADF test, developed by Phillips, Wu, and Yu (2011), which enables the detection of multiple bubbles, was used to identify potential price bubbles in returns. The findings provide significant insights for market participants regarding price movements in D-8 countries, particularly during the global pandemic period, while also offering data on divergences or similar responses among these countries.
