Abstract

This research examines the overall distribution of supported projects within the scope of the TÜBİTAK 4007 Program since its initial call in 2014. The study focuses on the institutional and regional trends of 553 of these projects funded between 2015 and 2025, where full data continuity is available. Data collected via document review in this descriptive survey were analysed through frequency, percentage, and normalization. Geographic distribution and regional trend mapping techniques were employed to visualize density variations. Findings indicate that the number of science festivals, following a peak in 2017-2018, is growing again as of 2025. Provincial and District Directorates of National Education (MEM) lead in total volume, accounting for approximately 60% of all projects. However, normalization data highlights the highest intensity in Provincial MEMs relative to capacity, with Universities and Science Centers surpassing District MEMs. Moreover, Science and Art Centers (BİLSEM), as support education institutions, appear to be the most active thematic units compared to formal education levels (primary, middle, and high schools). At the regional level, the Marmara Region holds the highest share; yet normalization data reveal that provinces such as Artvin, Rize, Bilecik, Çankırı, and Bayburt perform better in proportion to their populations than larger cities. Additionally, the 2023 Disaster Area Special Call was found to contribute to an increase in the number of projects across the affected provinces. In conclusion, science festivals are considered more than mere events; they are regarded as strategic tools aimed at providing social benefit through informal learning and enhancing regional capacity.
