Abstract

Digital transformation in financial technologies has made crypto-assets and blockchain applications an important area of discussion for the accounting profession. This study aims to examine the awareness and attitudes of accounting professionals toward cryptocurrencies and to evaluate the possible reflections of these perceptions on the profession. The research is based on data collected through an online survey from 401 accounting professionals affiliated with TÜRMOB in Türkiye. The scale demonstrated acceptable validity and reliability (KMO=0.912; Bartlett’s test of sphericity p<0.001; total variance explained=60.60%; Cronbach’s alpha=0.825). The data were analyzed using independent samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance. The findings indicate that female participants scored higher on the innovation dimension, whereas male participants scored higher on the assurance dimension. It was also found that innovation perception increased as age decreased, and that higher levels of cryptocurrency knowledge were associated with significant differences in innovation, accounting information systems, assurance, and risk dimensions. The study contributes to the literature by examining accounting professionals’ perceptions of crypto-assets within a four-dimensional framework in the Turkish context. The results point to the need for training, professional guidance, and standardization efforts in order to enhance digital adaptation capacity in the accounting profession.
