Abstract

This research was conducted on the grape variety ‘Italia’ in 2025 at the ‘Table Grape Varieties Application and Research Vineyard’ located in the ‘ÇOMÜ Dardanos Campus, Faculty of Agriculture, Plant Production Research and Application Unit’. The aim of the research was to determine the effects of different leaf removal levels on the canopy microclimate changes in 'Italia' grapevines. Five different treatments were applied to the grapevines trained to a unilateral cordon training system with spur pruning (two buds). The treatments included: Control (CNT), base leaf removal (BLR), opposite-cluster leaf removal (OCLR), removal of one leaf above the cluster (1LAC), and removal of two leaf above the cluster (2LAC). All treatments were carried out during the cluster closure stage of the 'Italia' grape variety. According to the research findings, the temperature inside the canopy, which was 32.59°C in the CNT, increased as leaf removal levels were increased, reaching 33.55°C in the 2LAC treatment. Relative humidity, which was 45.79% in the CNT, decreased to 43.52% in the 2LAC treatment, creating a statistically significant difference. Light intensity, which was 10587 lux in the CNT, increased significantly to 56400 lux in the 2LAC treatment. Similarly, the effects on the external canopy microclimate parameters showed numerical increases in the same direction. The average temperature of cluster surface, which was 28.59°C in CNT, increased across the treatment levels, reaching 30.95°C in 2LAC, creating a significant difference. Similarly, the internode temperature of the shoot with the cluster also increased significantly from 27.99°C in CNT to 30.47°C in 2LAC. As a result, it was revealed that the microclimate characteristics within the canopy and the average temperature of the cluster surface were significantly affected by the treatments applied.
