Abstract

This study aimed to determine the characteristics of mothers and babies who applied to the lactation clinic and the reasons for the mothers' application. This descriptive and retrospective study was conducted between 25/11/2023 and 30/12/2023 by examining the files of 112 mothers who received service from the lactation clinic between 30/01/2023 and 30/12/2023. The most common reason for mothers to apply to the lactation clinic is breast rejection (40.2%), other important reasons include the request for breastfeeding training (12.5%), insufficient weight gain (10.7%), mastitis (6.3%), and the baby's inability to latch on at the breast (4.3%). and training on transition to complementary foods (4.5%). It has been determined that mothers request counseling for problems such as breast refusal, request for breastfeeding education, baby's inability to latch on to the breast, breast problems, switching to supplementary food, reducing the use of bottles and formula, perception of insufficient milk, gas problems and gushing milk.
