Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine nurses' experiences with patient positioning interventions. Phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in this study. The study was conducted with adult intensive care nurses working in the intensive care units (ICUs) of a research hospital in the Central Anatolia Region of Turkiye, between 26 May 2025 and 23 June 2025. A total of 12 nurses participated in the semi-structured interviews. Experiences of ICU nurses regarding positioning and repositioning practices were grouped under four main themes, with nine subthemes: “Positioning status of the nurses to the patients”, “Points to consider when positioning the patient”, “The importance of positioning and position changing of the patient in the intensive care” and “Nurses' experiences of learning about positioning and position changing”. Although most nurses recognized the importance of positioning, the lack of standardized ICU protocols and in-service training resulted in the use of routine, non-individualized positioning practices for all patients.

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı, hemşirelerin hasta pozisyonlama girişimlerine ilişkin deneyimlerini incelemektir. Bu çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden fenomenoloji deseni kullanılmıştır. Araştırma, Türkiye’nin İç Anadolu Bölgesi’nde yer alan bir araştırma hastanesinin yoğun bakım ünitelerinde 26 Mayıs 2025–23 Haziran 2025 tarihleri arasında yürütülmüştür. Yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmelere toplam 12 hemşire katılmıştır. Yoğun bakım hemşirelerinin pozisyonlama ve yeniden pozisyon verme uygulamalarına ilişkin deneyimleri, dokuz alt tema içeren dört ana tema altında toplanmıştır: “Hemşirelerin hastaya pozisyon verme durumu”, “Hastaya pozisyon verirken dikkat edilen noktalar”, “Yoğun bakımda hastaya pozisyon verme ve pozisyon değiştirmenin önemi” ve “Hemşirelerin pozisyonlama ve pozisyon değiştirmeye ilişkin öğrenme deneyimleri”. Hemşirelerin büyük çoğunluğu pozisyonlamanın öneminin farkında olmakla birlikte, yoğun bakım ünitelerinde standart protokollerin ve hizmet içi eğitimlerin yetersizliği, tüm hastalar için rutin ve bireyselleştirilmemiş pozisyonlama uygulamalarının kullanılmasına yol açmaktadır.
