Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between depression levels and life satisfaction among women who practice Pilates. The literature emphasizes that depression negatively affects individuals' psychological, social, and physical well-being, while life satisfaction is directly associated with overall quality of life. Method: In this context, the study was conducted within a correlational survey model framework. A total of 336 women practicing Pilates voluntarily participated in the research. Participants' depression levels were assessed using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale–21 (DASS-21), and their life satisfaction levels were measured using the Satisfaction with Life Scale. The data obtained were analyzed using parametric tests, and the relationship between depression and life satisfaction was examined through correlation analysis. Results: The findings revealed a significant negative and moderate correlation between depression levels and life satisfaction. In other words, as depression increases, life satisfaction decreases. Additionally, married women reported significantly higher levels of life satisfaction and lower levels of depression compared to single women, while employed women reported higher life satisfaction than their unemployed counterparts. However, no significant difference was found between employment status and depression levels. Conclusion: These results demonstrate the supportive role of Pilates exercises in enhancing psychological well-being and improving life satisfaction. The findings also underscore the importance of physical activity-based interventions in reducing depression and improving quality of life. Moreover, the study highlights the influence of sociodemographic variables (marital status, employment status) on psychological well-being, contributing to developing preventive mental health practices.
