Abstract

Menstrual hygiene management is an important component of women's health. In recent years, interest in sustainable menstrual hygiene products has increased, with washable period underwear emerging as a prominent alternative. This case report aims to evaluate the experiences of a young woman using washable period underwear. A 21-year-old woman with menarche at age 12 and a regular menstrual cycle has been using washable period underwear for three months due to environmental and economic reasons. Assessment was conducted across physical comfort, practicality, psychological-social dimensions, economic evaluation, and overall satisfaction. The case reported finding the product comfortable without skin irritation but experiencing leakage on heavy flow days. Regarding practicality, she noted limited product quantity and difficulty changing in public spaces. She expressed positive feelings about using eco-friendly products and believes it will reduce long-term costs. Washable period underwear can be an effective alternative for young women. Nurses can offer sustainable options appropriate to individuals' preferences and lifestyles during menstrual hygiene counseling.
