Abstract

This study aims to examine the awareness, knowledge and utilisation levels of companies operating in Cappadocia Technopark regarding R&D incentives and tax exemptions. The exemptions provided under Laws No. 4691 and 5746 in Turkey are an important element of the technopark ecosystem and play a decisive role in companies' decisions to locate and operate in the region. Within the scope of the research, data was collected via a survey from 25 companies representing the universe of 46 companies located in the technology park, and the findings were analysed. The results show that cost-reducing incentives such as Corporate Tax Exemption, Income Tax Withholding Incentive, and SGK Employer Contribution Support are better known and more effectively used by companies. However, it was found that awareness and utilisation levels were low for incentives aimed at increasing R&D depth, such as Doctoral Support, Basic Sciences Support, and R&D Design Discounts. The findings of the research reveal that incentives are generally welcomed by companies but that their potential is not fully utilised due to a lack of information. These results are consistent with similar studies in the literature and indicate that simplifying the announcement, information dissemination, and implementation processes of incentives could increase their utilisation. The study's outputs provide practical recommendations for technology park management and policymakers, while also laying the groundwork for future comparative research with different technology park examples.
