Abstract

Following the signing of the Armistice of Mudros at the end of the First World War, occupations began in the territories of the Ottoman Empire. The spark ignited in Anatolia with the occupation of İzmir continued until 9 September 1922, when the Turkish army once again achieved victory in İzmir, securing independence. In the face of the occupations that followed the Armistice of Mudros, the population of these lands was compelled to endure days of great suffering. Rejecting these occupations, the Turkish nation took action and embarked upon a struggle for independence, first through the Kuva-yi Millîye (National Forces) and subsequently through the regular army that was established thereafter. During the period of the Turkish War of Independence, the press constituted one of the key sources for monitoring ongoing developments. Alongside the newspapers published in Turkey during this period, the Ahali newspaper—serving as the voice of the Turks in Bulgaria—held a significant place. It is observed that this newspaper drew attention to various issues concerning the Greeks, who were present in Anatolia as occupying forces during the War of Independence, by addressing a range of different issues about them. This study examines the available issues of the Ahali newspaper and analyzes the reports related to the War of Independence contained therein.

Özet

I. Dünya Savaşının sonunda Mondros Mütarekesinin imzalanmasının ardından Osmanlı Devleti topraklarında işgaller başlamıştır.
