Abstract
This study aims to reveal the floristic characteristics of vegetation types on Sof Mountain and contribute to the flora of Sof Mountain. The material for the research consists of plant samples collected from Sof Mountain between May and July during the optimal vegetation period in 2024-2025. In the study, 223 plant taxa were identified in the sample areas, and it was found that these taxa belonged to 51 families and 163 genera. Of the 223 taxa, 72 belong to the Iran-Turan, 43 to the Mediterranean, 5 to the European-Siberian phytogeographic region, 36 are widely distributed, and 67 are taxa of unknown phytogeographic region. Nineteen (9%) endemic taxa were identified in the study. Among the vegetation types identified in the study area, 35 (15.69%) taxa were identified in forest vegetation, 175 (78.47%) in shrub vegetation, 124 (55.60%) in steppe vegetation, and 115 (51.56%) in rock vegetation. It was determined that 12 taxa were common to all four vegetation types. The number of taxa identified in only one vegetation type but not in the others is 13 in forest vegetation, 52 in shrub vegetation, 6 in steppe vegetation, and 5 in rock vegetation. Consequently, when the data obtained in this study were combined with those from a previous flora study, the final tally of plants collected from Mount Sof was 75 families, 286 genera, and a total of 540 taxa. Their distribution by phytogeographic regions is as follows: 167 (30%) belong to the Iran-Turan region, 98 (18%) to the Mediterranean region, and 16 (3%) to the European-Siberian region. The total number of endemic plant species in the area was determined to be 39, with an endemism rate of 7%. Comparisons with studies conducted in neighboring regions indicate that the flora of Sof Mountain shares similarities in terms of the family and genus with the highest number of taxa, but exhibits a lower endemism rate compared to its immediate surroundings.
